The site of education, whether it be a nursery, a school, college or university should be secure, safe and comfortable environment conducive to teaching and learning. A student in this environment will be more alert, attentive and ready to work and play.
All teaching spaces should use the available daylight as the primary light source. Artificial light contributes 25% of the energy costs for a typical school.
An installed LED lighting management system can lead to a substantial reduction of these costs, often as much as 60% when compared to conventional lighting. Poor lighting can disadvantage children with weak vision and may adversely stimulate pupils with behavioural problems. LED luminaires produce a light which is more consistent with natural daylight, and as a result is ideal for the learning environment.
Good educational lighting is not simply about daylight penetration or saving energy, it must sustain the teaching and learning process.
